Luckily for us Utahns, fleas are not common here in Utah. If fleas are found, they are most likely on your dog or cat. Fleas transmit diseases and parasitic worms, and cause allergic dermatitis (inflammation of the skin). Adult fleas feed on blood, but the larvae feed on skin, feathers, and hair.
If you are seeing them around your pets, the best solution is to use an effective shampoo with a specific treatment for fleas. Wash your pet thoroughly. Shampoo alone will not eliminate the flea problem, it may only prevent it from reoccurring. If fleas are found in your carpet, the best strategy to eliminate the pest is to vacuum the entire area thoroughly. Then take the vacuum bag outside and dispose of it in your trash can. The next step is to call us. We'll come out and treat the entire infested area with a commercial grade flea formula called IGR (Insect Growth Regulator). This product will eliminate any reproduction of fleas in the treated area. Taking these steps not only sanitizes the area, but also provides a long lasting residual for multiple months to come.
